At Avoyelles Animal Welfare Society (AAWS), we're more than just a shelter. We are a safe haven. We are a second chance. We are a voice for the voiceless.

Founded with a deep love for animals and a commitment to serving our rural community, AAWS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and rehoming of abandoned, neglected, and homeless animals throughout Avoyelles Parish and surrounding areas. Whether it’s dogs, cats, or the occasional critter, we work tirelessly to make sure every animal receives the dignity, care, and love they deserve.  In the last 12 years, we have helped over 800 animals in the Avoyelles Parish and surrounding areas. Our hope is to grow and promote change in the laws of our community requiring spay/neuter of all animals by educating the community and advocating for animal welfare.

Every pawprint we save is made possible by people like you. We survive solely on donations and private grants - no government funding.
