Dear friends and animal lovers,

At Best Friends Humane Society (BFHS) in Worth County, we are on a mission to expand our transport program, and we invite you to join us. In 2024, we successfully transported over 677 animals from our small rural shelter, giving them the precious gift of a second chance at life. Many of these vulnerable animals found loving homes with rescues and shelters across the U.S., often with pre-adoptions, eager foster families, and medical care provided.

This noble mission is powered by a dedicated team of volunteers and staff who pour their hearts into their work. If you’ve been following us on social media, you’ve seen the incredible efforts of our community—animals flying to new beginnings, compassionate drivers stepping up, and our shelter director and president making long journeys to ensure these animals find loving families. But now, we need your support.

We are seeking a cargo van to enhance our ability to transport animals safely and efficiently. After two unsuccessful attempts to secure grant funding, we are turning to you, our community, for help. Our devoted staff can only transport a limited number of animals in our trucks, and they face challenges when inclement weather strikes.

This campaign aims to acquire a gently used cargo-type van, outfitted with safe, easy-to-clean kennels for transporting animals. This van will enable us to take animals to crucial appointments, transport them to the airport for air travel, and facilitate ground trips to nearby states when needed.

In 2024, we achieved a live release rate of just under 89%, and we celebrated an incredible 95% in the first quarter of 2025. This success is a testament to the power of transport in saving lives. Without these transports, we would be forced to pause intakes until animals find homes or make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize to create space.
