Many of you know about our organization "Wheels for Women"-- providing job training to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and the sex trade through the Cultural Academy for Peace in Kerala, India. This organization is now almost 12 years old. And we have a pressing immediate need.
The Cultural Academy and the Sakhi Shelter have been working to purchase a piece of land for a permanent home to offer as a refuge for women and their children as they put their lives back together. With the help of my wonderful students at Ithaca College and concerted efforts by the Cultural Academy, we have raised all but $2,250.00 needed to purchase the land by December 15th: the outside date that the seller has set before the sale falls through.
David and I have loaned $2000.00 of our own funds to cover most of the shortfall until our next Wheels for Women cabaret in April. But we are $250.00 short for the amount we need to wire to the shelter-- and that wire process must be started right now.
If you can help in any way right now, it will be greatly appreciated. Perhaps you are a regular donor to Wheels for Women-- and you could send your donation a little early. Or perhaps you've never heard of us before, but you are inspired to help women and children in India who are struggling to break the cycle of abuse. Any amount will help! Thank you for considering.
