Wilkeson's Way Forward

For generations, Wilkeson has stood as a symbol of hard work, resilience, and community pride. One of Washington’s first major coal mining towns, Wilkeson helped fuel the expansion of the railroads and the growth of the region. Our sandstone built landmarks across the Pacific Northwest, and our timber supported industries that shaped the state.

Today, the historic coke ovens, the Wilkeson School, and the spirit of our handcar races remind us of who we are. We are a town proud of its roots, rich in history, and deeply connected to the land. As the gateway to Mount Rainier, Wilkeson has always welcomed those who seek strength, beauty, and belonging.

Now, we have an opportunity to honor that legacy in a new way. Through Wilkeson’s Way Forward, our goal is to raise $915,000 to secure 139 acres of land just off our historic downtown. This property will be preserved and developed into a community asset that includes trails, parks, natural areas, and gathering spaces for residents and visitors. Any remaining funds will support the required environmental and planning studies that ensure responsible stewardship and long-term use of the land.

This project is more than conservation; it is an investment in Wilkeson’s future. By protecting and enhancing this land, we strengthen our local economy, create new opportunities for recreation and tourism, and ensure that the story of Wilkeson continues to be told with pride.

By supporting this campaign, you are helping safeguard Wilkeson’s heritage while building a brighter tomorrow. Together, we can honor our past, preserve our land, and create a lasting legacy for future generations.
