Help us turn a bit of low habitat-value wetland at Wright-Locke Farm into a mature native forest with high habitat-value (Miyawaki method). We’re planting 1200 plants of 39 native species in super-charged soil, so they’ll grow into forest in 30 years instead of the usual 150. Spearheaded by Grow Local for the Planet, a part of the Winchester Farmers Market Community Hub.
The forest has been planted and mulched, now we start watering, weeding, and mulching into the winter and then in the spring of 2025.
WIN Fast Forest is 51 percent forest, 49 percent community. That is, most of the work is done by volunteers. Everyone is welcome at any step: removing invasive plants, donating plants from helpers’ gardens, planting baby trees in September 2024, weeding and mulching the starting forest, and watching and measuring it as it grows.
