Story

The holidays are a special time at Coastal Kids Home Care. Each year, we have several organizations and members of the community come together to purchase gifts for our CK families. We have been lucky enough to have established a "Holiday Gift Program" with the help of some awesome people in the community, but we need YOUR help to make it another year to remember.

Every Christmas season children's organizations in the United States are flooded with gift donations. Businesses, service organizations, and the public deliver carloads of new toys, books, electronics, sports equipment, art supplies, and clothing for sick children. With so many programs designed to provide holiday gifts for children, what is unique about holiday gifting at Coastal Kids Home Care?

More than 50% of the families we serve are low or very low income. Most of these families cope with housing instability and food insecurity because of their child’s condition. For many, these hardships have been compounded by the pandemic. At the holidays, these families struggle even more.

The Winter Wishes program at Coastal Kids Home Care is unique which allows our families to decide what they need most at the holidays. Your generous gift of gift cards will be delivered by nurses and social workers directly to families of children with special needs.

When they receive gift cards, parents receive the gift of autonomy to choose special gifts and favorite foods for their own children without the burden of wondering if they could have otherwise afforded it. They receive the gift of giving… and you do too!

You can contribute to Winter Wishes by:

1. Joining together as a family to donate gift cards to families in need.

2. Donating cards in honor of a loved one for Christmas -- for the grandmother who has everything!

3. Bringing together coworkers to donate cards together and asking your employer to make a matching holiday gift.

4. Encouraging your child's troop, team or class to make a holiday gift to sick kids.
