In my 20 year career as an interventional radiologist, I have had the rewarding experience to perform Minimally Invasive Image-Guided Procedures (MIIPs) and see the tremendous benefit to patients. I have also experienced the frustration of learning that a patient underwent a more invasive procedure because they didn’t know there was an alternative. The mission of the Interventional Initiative to educate and engage patients and physicians about MIIPs so patients can have true informed consent and access to care. I was honored to join the board to help with this mission and excited to join with the Road2IR who have created a sustainable way to bring MIIPs to patients in a sustainable way to Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to share the story of the amazing Road2IR team and show how MIIPS are saving lives all over the world.
