Worldview XR is a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing public understanding of climate science. We're in the process of building an extended reality (XR) viewer that will overlay immersive and interactive educational experiences onto real landscapes. Our goal is to integrate these viewers into town, state, and national parks in Maine and beyond.

The Worldview XR viewer will be powered by 100% renewable energy, with each unit accompanied by a solar panel that sustains its battery.

📍 Where we are right now

We tested our current prototype outdoors at Sebago Lake this spring, built in a month for a Meta hackathon, and it worked! That was a big milestone: seeing the viewer function in real outdoor conditions and aligned to the landscape itself. Check it out here!

We're also in early talks with conservation groups working on Scarborough Marsh, exploring it as a possible pilot site. The people managing interpretive signage there are already thinking about how to show visitors what the marsh looked like in the past and what it might look like decades from now. Turns out that's exactly what our viewer is built to do.

And we've applied for a climate/immersive media grant to help fund fabrication with the University of Maine's Advanced Manufacturing Center. We won't know the outcome for a while, but this campaign is what keeps things moving now, grant or no grant.
