The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is an open-door Shelter so we take in all animals regardless of their medical needs. Can you help animals like Popcorn today? Here is his success story:

Popcorn was a sweet little kitten in a stray litter that got stepped on by a horse on the property where he lived. His radius and ulna were crushed and exposed. The property owners went to a vet Emergency Room for diagnostics but could not afford treatment. So the ER doc contacted the Shelter to see if we would take it as a surrender and amputate, since it was otherwise well and friendly. We did and, a couple of days later, the farrier who shoes the horse that stepped on the kitten, showed up at the Shelter to adopt it. He had heard the story from the property owner and wanted to give this little squirt a good home! He actually showed up with pictures of him playing with the kitten before the injury on the ranch (and pictures of his prior tripod cat that he had to say goodbye to about a year ago).
