Community Iftar in San Francisco
This Ramadan WVMA is working with a group in San Francisco to help host a neighborhood wide iftar! For many Ramadans, a wonderful group of young Muslims have gotten together to break fast with each other and spend time in community. Over the years, the iftar gatherings have grown into a deeply meaningful tradition rooted in hospitality, reflection, and connection. This year, we're extending that care and community to the neighborhood around us.
We helping organize a large, open, public iftar for approximately 400 people by temporarily closing a local street in San Francisco and transforming it into a welcoming space to share a meal. The goal of this event is simple: to bring neighbors together of all faiths, many of whom may not have met before, and offer an accessible introduction to Ramadan and the Muslim community.
To make this event possible, we are seeking support to help cover the significant costs associated with hosting an event of this scale. This is a zero-profit effort, with all funds used exclusively to support the event.
Donations will go directly toward:
Food and meals for guests
Tents, tables, and chairs
Utensils and décor
Heaters and weather accommodations
Portable lavatories
Prayer mats
As an example, a $1,000 donation helps provide meals for approximately 25 guests and supports essential event logistics that make it possible to host a safe, welcoming, and free community gathering. Our hope is that guests can focus entirely on sharing a meal, building genuine connections, and learning about one another, without worrying about cost or logistics. Your support helps make that possible and allows us to bring neighbors together in a way that reflects the true spirit of Ramadan.
