JCC Budapest was founded in 1994 as one of the first Jewish community organizations in Central-Eastern Europe following the fall of the Iron Curtain, and has served as a pivotal point of Hungarian Jewish community life ever since.

JCC Budapest celebrates Judaism openly and without shame. It is a gathering place for Jews who seek companionship and a place to converse, learn, and celebrate Judaism. JCC Budapest is committed to a strong Jewish future in the heart of Europe.

In 2022, JCC Budapest started a new chapter as it became an independent local NGO, with an international board consisting of stakeholders from Hungary and the United States. With a renewed strategy and organizational structure, the JCC became a self-sustained and resilient Hungarian Jewish institution. In 2024, Friends of JCC Budapest was established as a registered 501(c)(3) in the United States with a goal of supporting Jewish life in Budapest and beyond.

Guided by their mission and vision, JCC Budapest focuses on:

  1. Making Jewish knowledge and traditions relevant to secular 21st Century Jews

  1. Providing innovative community programming

  1. Creating and employing partnerships and networking
