For 47 years, Empowerhouse has supported domestic violence survivors across our community. We’ve helped victims plan for safety, housed victims and their children, and worked through the trauma associated with the risks of increasing lethality associated with domestic violence because of the use of guns or strangulation.

On Sunday, February 1, friends of Empowerhouse will gather at the Elks Lodge #875 on Tidewater Trail for the 27th annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser. This event supports the free services offered by Empowerhouse to our community and the positive difference our efforts make for children, youth, and survivors, to break the cycle of violence.

DID YOU KNOW:

1 in 4 women in the U.S. is a victim of severe domestic violence.
Each year, 10,000 youth across our community are witnesses to incidents of domestic violence in their homes.
1 in 3 adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner.
Local law enforcement responds to over 6,500 domestic violence-related calls each year.
The Empowerhouse hotline (540-373-9373) is answered locally 24/7. Family and friends may also call the hotline for support.
All Empowerhouse victim services are FREE.
Empowerhouse believes that you, and anyone you know should be treated with respect, dignity, safety, and hope.

LAST YEAR, EMPOWERHOUSE:

Helped more than 4,100 people make a new start.
Provided shelter and housing to over 330 people; over half were children.
Responded to more than 1,900 people through our 24-hour hotline.
Supported more than 300 children and teens with trauma-informed advocacy, housing, activities, and group programs, plus an additional 3,900 youth with Healthy Relationship Classroom Presentations.
Assisted nearly 900 individuals with court advocacy and hospital accompaniment.
Provided bi-cultural, bi-lingual support to 179 individuals with our Latina services.
Reached 5,500 people at over 300 community engagements.
