WHO ARE WE?
We are Ragin' Cajun Racing, a second year Formula SAE Team at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Our goal is to design, manufacture, and race an open wheeled, single seat automobile to compete with at the FSAE competition at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI in May of 2019. This international competition is a multi-dimensional event that gives collegiate level students the opportunity to develop tangible and practical real-world experience.
In 2017, a group of students persevered to bring Formula SAE back to UL Lafayette. Our team built the initial race car in a home garage; and fortunately, we now have a team shop as well as more plentiful resources necessary for building a foundation of success. We are eager to learn and develop new, innovative ways of building an official Formula SAE race car as we continue on into our second official year back on campus.

WHAT IS THIS?
The project is meant to challenge students in a way similar to what they’ll experience after graduation in a real job. Collaboration, tight deadlines, strict budgets, and learning how to design and manufacture all come into play. Formula SAE is one of the best ways to ensure the success of students after graduation. It creates an environment which promotes creativity and motivates students to challenge themselves beyond the classroom.
The competition consists of static and dynamic events as well as a business event. Students don’t just get to build a car and have fun driving. They are also required to formally present and defend their research and design decisions in a Q&A session with a panel of judges. A cost report analysis and business presentation are also required as teams must prove that their car is capable of being manufactured at a reasonable cost and able to generate a profit for investors. The dynamic events are intended to test the cars performance. The dynamic portion involves a straight-line acceleration event and a skid pad which is meant to test cornering ability of the car as well as an autocross time trial. Finally, a 13.5-mile endurance style race tests the reliability of the student’s designs.

Our sponsor’s have played a crucial role in developing a foundation for success by providing resources and building connections. If it weren’t for their generosity, we would have never recognized our potential as a team and individuals. This year is equally important as our first year in having all the resources necessary for fostering the growth of our organization. We intend to purchase shop tools, parts for the car, welding supplies, raw materials, safety equipment, cover traveling expenses, entry fees, and expendables such as gas with the funds we raise. Your donations will contribute to the education and development of future engineers through the use of these supplies. Our team will greatly appreciate anyone who is willing to help develop our foundation for success both as professionals, and on the racetrack.
Donations of $25 or more will receive a complementary t-shirt of desired size and color in appreciation for your support of the RCR team. We will be sending out emails containing the t-shirt order form for the size and color of your choice.
If you would like your donation to be tax deductible please contact us before making a donation
