New Community Vision is a non-profit at the early stages of input for an attainable housing project as part of addressing the housing shortages for those who work and live in our community. As part of our conceptual planning and community input process, we are hosting two special stakeholder meetings for our donors. We hope you will be able to join us for one.

Culminating a two-year effort, and in partnership with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, the former Timber Shores property was acquired on December 24, 2024. As a result, 189 acres will be preserved in perpetuity, including the important shoreline, wetlands, woodlands and section of Ennis Creek important to you, and will help to protect and enhance the natural resources our community cherishes. The GTB Land Trust now owns these preserved natural areas, and will restore and steward it into the future.

NCV now owns the 25-acre former orchard field off Camp Haven Road and M-22. We have begun the initial design process for much-needed, sustainably developed attainable housing in collaboration with Peninsula Housing, Leelanau’s non-profit community land trust. Building on the visioning and input process Peninsula Housing undertook last year for a 10-acre parcel in Suttons Bay, we are working with Urban Design Associates, a national land planning firm with a satellite office in Suttons Bay led by Jeffrey Schwaiger. As part of UDA’s conceptual planning process, we are having a series of focus group style listening and input sessions for stakeholders. Previous sessions have already been held with local employers, local employees, and neighbors. The objective of these stakeholder meetings is to present highlights of initial planning analysis and seek to hear input from the community towards the scope and overall look and mix of possible attainable housing on the site.

This will be a chance for us to listen to your thoughts for the future of this property. The intention of this session is also for the UDA design team to listen to your thoughts about housing in our community, to help us develop a vision that suits the needs and desires of our community.
