Diabetes Platicas
This new year-long program offers a different, supportive way for people with diabetes to learn how to manage their health. Certified Nurse Practitioner Ana Guardiola recognized that the current medical approach often leaves patients without the deep education and consistent support they need. Her vision is to start a series of "Diabetes Platicas" (informal educational chats) that create a warm, family-style learning environment.
The program aims to bridge the knowledge gap by bringing together the practical wisdom of elders, the energy and questions of youth, and the expertise of professionals. Participants will meet monthly in small groups for one and a half hours. These sessions are designed to be a blend of shared learning, social support, and hands-on skills—like healthy cooking demonstrations using portable cooktops. By closing the gap in understanding and providing continuous support, this holistic model ensures that diabetes care is understood and practiced across all ages and backgrounds.
