Stone Carving Workshop With Joe Autry 5/25/2024 and 5/26/2024

Origin Park is hosting a two-day public stone carving workshop with amazing local artist Joe Autry. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to try your hand at the craft. The workshop is designed for all ability levels. The project will be creating a low-relief carving on an 18x12x2 inch Indiana Limestone tablet using a hammer and a variety of chisels. Participants must commit to both days or they will be unable to complete the project. The finished reliefs can be taken home and will be a beautiful addition to the garden. Important Information for Participants: - This is a two-day workshop; 5/25/2024 from 10am-3pm and 5/26/2024 from 10am - 3pm - To participate you must be available to attend both sessions. - Location is Origin Park Mural House, 1235 W. Kenwood Avenue, Clarksville IN 47129. - Please bring a filled water bottle and any snacks you wish to have on hand. - We recommend comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes. - Participants should bring their own gloves if they wish. - The workshop will be held outdoors weather permitting or indoors if inclement weather. Origin Park is for everyone. Please contact us if you wish to participate but have concerns about accessibility, and we will do our best to accommodate you. Fee is $200 per person for both days, including instruction, use of hand tools, stone, and use of safety glasses. Advance registration is required. Limit 15 participants. Registration closes on May 10. Please consider making an additional donation to Origin Park when you register. Level and ages: Ages 12 through adult, with all abilities welcome from beginners through experienced carvers. About the Artist: Clarksville artist and educator Joe Autry has been practicing sculpture for over 25 years. He began his career at age 17 in the bronze sculpture foundry of David Kocka in Laconia Indiana. He has traveled domestically and internationally to Russia, Germany, Japan, and Latvia to collaborate and compete in creating sculptures from wood, ice, snow, sylvinite/salt, sand, and steel.
