As the Folkmoot community embraces a mission that celebrates cultures, arts, education, and traditions, one can’t help but think of the organization’s incredible 40-year journey from its inception in 1984 to today.
Folkmoot has sustained and thrived despite challenges over time, in no small part due to the unwavering support of many residents who call Western NC home and visitors to our beautiful mountain communities. Despite the global uncertainties of the last few years, pandemic included, Folkmoot has continued to be present and embracing cultures, arts, education, and traditions.
In addition to its festival programming, Folkmoot USA has grown to include year-round programming at its headquarters in the former Hazelwood Elementary School. This Folkmoot Friendship Center is a diverse, inclusive community-based arts organization that hosts 10 artist and community organization studio spaces.
