"L" accrued felonies while under the control of her trafficker and had her five children taken from her care. Fortunately, her parental rights were initially preserved. Despite her struggles, "L" had transformed her life, graduating from a culinary program and securing employment at an esteemed restaurant in Virginia.

After months in our program, L was compelled by the court system to leave our restorative care facility and secure suitable housing for herself and her children, or risk losing her parental rights. Due to her criminal record, finding safe and affordable housing proved impossible. She settled for a room where her past convictions were inconsequential. Soon after, "L" succumbed to fentanyl poisoning, in the room she managed to rent, still without her beloved children.

As we approach Mother's Day, we are reminded of this harsh reality: nearly all the women in our restorative care homes are mothers, robbed of the opportunity to raise their children due trafficking.

This injustice must end. Survivors of trafficking deserve to be parents. With your support, we can prevent another tragic story like "L".
