Story
In 2014, five educators came together with a common goal: to build an organization that would be more responsive to the needs of multilingual learners (MLs), while creating opportunities to work with other like-minded individuals. As current and former ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teachers, we believe strongly in the promise and fortitude of this diverse group of young people. We also know there is much more we can do to increase access for our students while developing their skills and talents. With our shared passion and combination of more than 75 years in the field of education for multilingual students, we knew that if we worked together, we could make a greater impact. This is how the Chesapeake Language Project was founded.
This year, the CLP is sending our second cohort of mentees to college in and around Maryland! It is through your generosity that we're able to support students as they open doors for themselves and for those who follow in their footsteps. This year, our third group of twenty mentees are in their junior year of high school and are starting to think about which colleges they'd like to apply to. Their future looks bright!
Over the last seven years, the CLP has awarded nearly $19,000 to Maryland high school graduates! Again, this wouldn't be possible with your generous contributions.
