The Tale of Toulas' Teef
Meet Toulas, a six-month old female Pug, surrendered to Second Chance Dog Rescue by an owner who acquired her from a breeder. He was told she was blind in one eye, however she does have vision in that eye but there is a scar, due to a previous injury, that may impair her vision. Upon exam by our regular vet, it was discovered she has a mandibular laxity which required us to consult with Dr Ritchie (veterinary dental specialist). In addition to mandibular laxity she also has retained baby teeth. When this happens, the baby tooth occupies the place in the mouth that's meant for the permanent tooth, forcing the permanent tooth to erupt at an abnormal angle or in an abnormal position. The end result is crowding of the teeth, causing an abnormal bite, pain and further dental problems. Early extraction is crucial to allow the adult teeth to move into their proper positions. Toulas underwent dental surgery this morning, Monday 04/14. A CT scan provided additional information needed to fully form a treatment plan. Nine retained baby teeth and 1 impacted tooth were extracted. The total cost for the dental procedure is $2,812.70. Please donate what you can and share this fundraiser to help us cover the cost of Toulas' care. Thank you for your generous and loving support of our mission to rescue, rehab and rehome the lost and abandoned pets like Toulas that find their way to our rescue.
