Join us in a weekend experiential workshop on August 12 and 13, 2023 with individuals working to transform their communities, institutions, families, and selves in a quest for safer and more connected communities.

Post covid, our communities and schools are suffering the after effects of lockdowns and isolation. Social emotional skills and development for the young have fallen behind, and violence is increasing. This program will equip you with skills in Community Building, conflict transformation, communication, empathy, deescalation, and violence reduction; these skills can be applied most anywhere - in personal relationships, work, community, schools, etc.

This special weekend of Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) curriculum, will include the opportunity to gather in circle, participate in community building activities, authentic conversations, fun activities, and small group problem solving.

The Alternatives to Violence Project is an association of community, school, and prison-based groups offering experiential workshops in personal growth, trauma recovery, empathy, nonviolence and creative conflict management.

The Alternatives to Violence Project was originally founded in prison and developed from the lived experience of incarcerated individuals. In the past 50 years AVP has spread to over 60 countries and is in schools, refugee camps, conflict zones, gang intervention programs, drug recovery centers, and prisons and jails around the world. AVP encourages every person’s innate power to positively transform first themselves and then the world. Come learn what is possible.

Workshop Timing:

Saturday,July 8: 9 AM-5:30 PM; and
Sunday, July 9: 9 AM-5:30 PM

Out of respect for group process and maintaining trust among participants, please only register if you can commit to attending the entire weekend.

Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early each day so the workshop can begin promptly.

What to Know:

Please bring a sack lunch on Saturday and Sunday as we will be eating onsite together.
Wear comfortable, casual clothing and shoes that allow you to move around easily. We may also be outside, so a jacket will be helpful.
Other than a water bottle, lunch and snacks, there is no need to bring anything else.

Cost:

This workshop is covered under a King County grant, and there is no cost to participate. If you would like to make an additional donation to help further the work, you are welcome to do so.
