Story

Rev. Dr. Johannes J. Christian

Rev. Dr. Johannes J. Christian was severely injured by a troubled youth in a rock-throwing incident on July 9, 2001. This event, which captured the nation's attention, almost ended his life and changed it forever. Because of the injuries he sustained, he has endured over 40 massive facial reconstruction surgeries.

Dr. Christian faces a world of darkness, as he lost both of his eyes because of this life-changing event. This caused two state laws to be changed, stiffening the penalty for propelling objects from bridges and highway overpasses.

The loss of his sight clarified Dr. Christian’s mission and ministry of focusing on the forgiveness. He believes that in order to heal, it is important to forgive. His teachings emphasize the importance of forgiveness regardless of the circumstances. Dr. Christian has authored several books about forgiveness and is currently a radio personality on the CJoy Internet network. He resides in Columbus, Ohio.

THE REASONS FOR UNDERTAKING THIS EVENT

Despite the loss of his sight, Dr. Christian forgave the teenager, as outlined in his book, The Face of Forgiveness. He then sought to create public awareness to overcome adversity and victimization.

Dr. Christian and the organizers of the Forgiveness and Reconciliation Uniting America Walk hope to bring continued focus, conversation, and action to efforts aimed at true forgiveness and healing, especially in times of harm, anger, fear, concern, and hopelessness. We hope to bring this unique and powerful conversation to the nation.

Donations will be given to two 501(c) agencies in Columbus, Ohio: The Mid-Ohio Board for Independent Living Environment (MOBILE) (Mobileonline.org) and the Face of Forgiveness Foundation (Faceofforgiveness.org).
