Dear Friend of Hosanna,

On this Giving Tuesday, we invite you to stand with Hosanna School Museum—the 1867 Freedmen’s school in Harford County that has become a living classroom for stories of freedom, education, and community power. From the days when newly emancipated Black families insisted on schooling for their children, to today’s students walking through our doors, Hosanna has always been about who has access to knowledge—and who gets to shape the narrative.

Each year, we welcome visitors, students, and teachers who are seeking a deeper understanding of Maryland’s history through the lens of the African American experience: Reconstruction, Jim Crow, civil rights, and the ongoing struggle for equity. At Hosanna, young people see that ordinary people—farmers, laborers, domestic workers, veterans, and church leaders—organized to build schools, claim land, and push against systems that denied them status, rights, and opportunity. They begin to see themselves as part of that longer story of resilience and leadership.
