Our Mission

The sole mission of the Texas South Plains Honor Flight is to honor the service of our

area men and woman. We do that by taking them on an all-expense paid three-day trip

to Washington, D.C. to visit the war memorials with their fellow veterans dedicated to

their service. Starting with our inaugural flight in 2012, we have taken nine trips and

over 1000 veterans on the annual flight. No flights were taken in 2020 and 2021 due to

Covid restrictions. The Lubbock hub is part of the national Honor Flight Network. There

are currently 128 hubs in the U.S. and seven in Texas. Since its inception in 2005, the

Network has taken over 250,000 veterans to Washington, D.C.

Our next flight in 2023 will be in early June. The veteran's trip begins with a mail call

onboard the chartered Southwest Airlines Flight. For the veterans, this is just the

beginning of many highlights of their trip. After a warm welcome at the Baltimore

airport, the first stop is the WWII Memorial. Other memorials visited include the Korean,

Iwo Jima and Vietnam. The veterans participate in laying a wreath at each of the

memorials, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Several area museums are

visited as well. The three-day trip concludes with a warm West Texas reception at the

Lubbock Airport by family, friends and local citizens wanting to thank these aging

veterans for their service.

The Texas South Plains Honor Flight Committee is strictly an all-volunteer non-profit

organization. The committee works all year to raise the nearly $250,000 that is needed

to sponsor this event. As always, this trip is only possible due to the generous donations

of businesses, organizations and of course, our area residents. Thank you for your
