Our Story — Who We Are and Why We Exist

In 2018, what would become Your Money Matters was born out of a simple but powerful realization: traditional financial education wasn’t enough. Across classrooms and community workshops, people, especially economically vulnerable individuals and families were shown how money works… then left to figure out how to apply it on their own.

Clinton Taylor, our founder, had spent years in the Puget Sound area running financial literacy programs. What he saw again and again was this: people learned the facts but still struggled to turn that knowledge into real‑world financial stability. They understood budgets, saving, and credit in theory, but when life got complex, they didn’t have someone walking with them through the hard parts.

So he created a different kind of program, one built not just on teaching, but on mentorship, partnership, and sustained support. What began as a response to a gap in the system became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to individualized, long‑term financial mentoring for people who need it most.

What We Do

At our core, Your Money Matters is about walking alongside people through their real financial journeys, especially:

Economically vulnerable youth and adults who have already received basic financial education but still find themselves asking, “Now what?”
Individuals who want help applying financial knowledge to life decisions from choosing the right bank account to building emergency savings, managing debt, and planning for the future.
Community members who need more than a class, they need a trusted mentor, encouragement, and accountability.

We provide this through intensive one‑on‑one and group mentoring experiences that help participants build healthy financial habits, access the tools they need, and develop financial confidence that lasts a lifetime.

As we shift into our wellness center era and launch the Money Mindset Academy, we’re taking this same spirit of holistic support into new dimensions, integrating emotional and psychological wellbeing with financial empowerment to unlock deeper transformation.
