According to the Association of America Medical College, Black children ages 5 to 12 are twice as likely to die by suicide attempts than their white peers. From 2001-2017, rates of suicide attempts amongst Black adolescents were at an all-time high.

These suicide attempts are a result of prolonged stressors due to depression, anxiety, and other mental health struggles. Reasons vary from loss of caregivers, social media influences, isolation during the pandemic, and other outside stressors that come from the long-term impact of systemic racism.

At EHD, we believe young girls need to understand early the importance of taking care of their mind, body, soul, and spirit so they can provide nurturing to themselves, proactively and reactively.

This Mental Health Symposium will educate young girls on ways to identify stress, counter negative thoughts, build a healthy social community, and manage acute and long-term stress.

We are looking forward to serving 25 girls ages 9-17 at our Inaugural Mental Health Symposium.
