What would the world be like if important youth voices across journalism, music and creative went silent?

We don’t ever want to find out.

Our nonprofit Youth Radio (dba YR Media) has spent 30 years centering the reporting and media production of majority Black and brown voices in the Bay Area. We offer intensive multimedia training; paid career opportunities for youth interested in the editorial, music and creative fields, as well as the mentorship necessary for them to make it in their chosen pathway. Our participants and alumni are Edward R. Murrow, Pulitzer Prize, Peabody and Gracie award winners.

In addition to real-world experience with industry-standard equipment and software, we provide social supports including academic advisors, case managers, access to counselors and healthy snacks.

And we deploy a trauma-informed storytelling process that amplifies, rather than exploits, the voices of the young people who are part of our programming.
