Education changed everything for me. As a first-generation college student, I never imagined I’d one day hold both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.  Every opportunity I’ve had started because someone believed in me. 

Now, it’s my turn to pay it forward.

I’m proud to be part of the Young Women’s Alliance (YWA) Annual Giving Campaign, raising money to provide $10,000 scholarships for first-generation, college-bound senior girls graduating from Del Valle High School’s Class of 2026.

Last year, with your generosity, we raised $1,200 on my peer-to-peer page, helping make these scholarships possible. I’m beyond proud to share that one of those recipients is my mentee, Ginny! She’s now thriving at Texas State University, and this year I get to continue supporting her through YWA’s LENS Mentor Program.

Here’s what Ginny recently shared:

“Hi! My name is Ginny Benitez Perez, and I am a recipient of the YWA Leaders Scholarship currently attending Texas State University! As I’m midway through my first semester, I’ve had such a great time! On my very first day, I met the university president at the dining hall—he sat with us, shared some tips, and welcomed us to campus! I’ve made new friends, built strong connections with my professors, and have felt so supported and blessed by the YWA community. Thank you, YWA! Love, Ginny.” 💛

Seeing Ginny’s excitement and growth has been one of the most rewarding experiences. As someone who was once in her shoes, it’s incredible to now stand beside her as a mentor. 

This year, I’m doubling down on my commitment by stepping into the role of Vice President of Events for YWA—leading our annual Flourish fundraiser and working to raise even more money for scholarships and mentorship opportunities.
