2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, but it has disproportionately impacted working mothers who have been forced to make impossible decisions to support their families. At the beginning of this global health crisis, we adjusted our services to best support the changing needs of our community. After surveying our clients, we found that an overwhelming majority of them needed immediate food, financial, and emotional support. The extended closing of schools, sustained lack of economic activity, and restrictions on hours of operation in the workplace have an adverse effect on the ability of women employed in low-wage positions to survive financially.

When you give to YWCA of Southern Arizona you support our programs working to fulfill the needs of working mothers in our community. This is some of the new work we engaged in this past year:

Helped small-business owners adapt to nationwide safety precautions and move their business services online as well as access federal resources.
Delivered critical resources and counseling to women and families to address and prevent domestic violence through our Women's Counseling Network and Promotoras Program
Acquired Pima County Teen Court program that works towards our mission of eliminating racism with restorative justice approaches to ending mass incarceration.
Partnered with other local organizations to provide free mammogram screenings, COVID-19 tests, and Flu Shots.
Began administering the City of Tucson CARES act funding in grants to small businesses and survivors of domestic violence to provide financial resources directly to our community during this challenging year.
Engaged in voter education and outreach to over 10,000 moms during this historic election.
Shifted our regular workforce development, wellness, entrepreneurship, and professional classes online to ensure continued and increased access.
Welcomed the SBA Madam Administrator Jovita Carranza in her visit to Tucson and facilitated a conversation with local business owners and the SBA staff to better understand currently available resources and how they can better meet their needs.
Shifted weekly in-person gatherings in our Las Comadritas programming for elders to weekly phone calls. We also distributed care baskets and meals to the elders to reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing.
