Neonatal Rescue is focused on reducing newborn mortality in low-resource regions of the world by addressing Neonatal Distress Syndrome (NRDS or RDS). The critical transition from the fetus to the neonate is complicated and fragile. The newborn must undergo many complex physiological changes to take its first breath, notwithstanding any additional complications like disease or preterm birth. The WHO estimates that globally, 24% of newborn deaths are caused by asphyxia related to NRDS; the cause and treatments of NRDS are well understood and available in developed nations, and these deaths can easily be avoided with simple equipment and training. We believe we can significantly impact newborn mortality by tackling this specific issue. At Neonatal Rescue, our mission is to provide life-saving solutions for infants through innovative medical devices, training, and support. Our programs are urgently needed in clinics and hospitals in rural Zambia. We have partnered with World Vision Zambia to provided 19Neolife ventilators and trained in 7 hospitals. In October 2023, World Vision asked us to return and expand our programs.
