Terryn McBride's Story

Greetings Family, Friends, and Community,

My name is Terryn McBride, a senior at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Being chosen for the Pauline Redmond Coggs Cotillion represents a true privilege, celebrating academic achievement, leadership, service, and cultural pride.

This distinction connects me to a powerful legacy. Pauline Redmond Coggs was a noted community activist and retired professor of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee who dedicated her life to education, service, and empowering others. As a charter member of the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., her commitment to service was unmatched until her passing on July 17, 2005. In 1999, recognizing her transformative impact on our community, the chapter formed the Pauline Redmond Coggs Foundation in her memory, a foundation that now supports young women like me in becoming the leaders our community needs.

Who I Am

I'm proud to embody these values as a student athlete and captain of my school's wrestling team. Wrestling has taught me discipline, resilience, and the power of perseverance; qualities that define me both on and off the mat. Through ranked competition, I've learned that success flows from dedication, hard work, and the courage to face any challenge head-on.

My faith has been the cornerstone of my development from an early age. As an active member of my church community at New Testament Church of Milwaukee, I have participated in choir, praise dance, and various community service initiatives that have shaped my character and commitment to serving others. These spiritual foundations have instilled in me the values of compassion, integrity, and service that guide every aspect of my life.

Beyond athletics and faith, I actively participate in both Leaders of Unity (LU) and the Black Student Union (BSU), two organizations that have shaped me into a strong advocate for equity, community, and empowerment. These experiences have shown me the importance of using my voice to uplift others and create positive change.

My Foundation: Family

An opportunity such as this carries special meaning for me, reflecting on my family's commitment to academic excellence, faith, and community service. My parents, Terrance and Taylore McBride, have nurtured me with unwavering love, support, and guidance throughout my journey. They have instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and service to others that define who I am today. I understand that this experience extends far beyond one beautiful evening; it's about becoming a leader, a scholar, and a servant to our community, just as they have modeled for me.

D R E A M S

I plan to major in Sociology with a minor in Pre-Law, working toward becoming a divorce and family attorney. I want to support families during life's most difficult transitions, helping them find healing, hope, and a path forward. My own experiences have taught me that everyone deserves someone in their corner who believes in their strength and potential.

My Personal Mission

Through this transformative experience, I am not only working to raise $15,000, but also developing invaluable life skills that will serve me throughout my journey. This cotillion will enhance my networking abilities, connecting me with accomplished women and community leaders who can guide my path. I'll cultivate sisterly bonds with fellow debutantes that will provide lifelong support and friendship. Most importantly, I'll refine my self-presentation skills: learning poise, confidence, and grace that will serve me in every professional and personal setting I enter.

Join Us for This Special Celebration
