Campaign Summary

Vaibhav Duggal was a third-year medical student with a lifelong commitment to becoming a physician. In July 2025, at the age of 24, Vaibhav died by suicide due to unfair disciplinary actions from the University. This campaign seeks accountability, independent review, and reform — to honor Vaibhav’s life and to help ensure that no other student is placed in similar circumstances without adequate safeguards or support.

Who Vaibhav Was

Vaibhav Duggal was an exceptional student and a dedicated, kind, compassionate and promising future physician.

Vaibhav was known for his discipline, integrity, and deep sense of responsibility toward patients and his profession.

What Led Us Here

A lack of proper investigation into an allegation resulted in an unfair disciplinary process that treated Vaibhav as guilty of actions he did not commit. Vaibhav was not given a meaningful opportunity to defend himself and was not provided appropriate institutional or mental health support. The resulting disciplinary actions and absence of due process led to severe psychological distress.

Systemic Concerns

This case has brought to light broader issues in how high-stakes academic disciplinary processes are handled, particularly in professional schools where outcomes can permanently alter a student’s career and identity.

Key concerns include:

Absence of robust due process protections
Lack of trauma-informed and mental health–centered responses
Imbalance of power between institutions and students
Insufficient safeguards when allegations carry life-altering consequences

The university has not publicly addressed these concerns or completed any investigation, citing student privacy protections.

Why This Campaign Exists

Vaibhav’s death must not be reduced to a private tragedy. It raises urgent questions that deserve public attention and responsible action.
