We are running the Marine Corps 10k and half marathon in late October 2024 to raise much needed money for Uplifting Afghan Girls (UAG)!!

As you know, we are host parents to some of the incredible young Afghan women in UAG's first class of students who are in the US studying at private high schools in NYC. However, all of UAG's students need financial support to continue their studies in the US. Donations to UAG help provide critical care to all UAG students in NYC including dental and mental health care, math & science tutoring, music and art lessons, advanced academic courses, college prep, and much more! All of this translates to about $20k per year for each girl. In 2024, 96% of all money raised is projected to go directly to the girls. (UAG has a proper pitch deck with financials available upon request.)

About UAG:

Afghanistan is the only country in the world that bans girls’ education. Let that sink in.

We saw despair in the eyes of Afghan girls after the Taliban took over Kabul in 2021 and barred young women from attending schools and universities. But it wasn’t enough to be a witness to this incredibly tragic event -- we had to take action. The Uplifting Afghan Girls (UAG) team set out to change the destiny of Afghan girls through education.

Using our combined experiences (UAG's President served in Afghanistan with the US Government and other board members were tutors to Afghan children) we formed UAG in late May 2023. The full UAG team moved at lightning speed to do what many said was impossible: we brought five Afghan teenage girls to the US and they were enrolled in private schools in NYC by September 2023.

The Taliban destroyed the artwork and musical instruments of our girls in an attempt to silence their voices and crush their spirits. Today those same girls are thriving in America—they have new instruments, new art, and a new life thanks to the UAG team, host families, and our many supporters and volunteers.

Bringing Afghan young women to the US to study is just the first step in a long journey and it takes ongoing physical, emotional, and financial support to ensure they flourish and grow.
