March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, which is special to my family as my precious mother-in-law passed away one year ago from metastatic colon cancer. My mother-in-law had her first colonoscopy screening when she was in her late 70’s, which was performed due to severe anemia. The colonoscopy revealed a large colon mass, and she underwent immediate surgery to remove the mass. Unfortunately, she ended up with metastasis to her lung, brain, and liver.
We were blessed to spend her last days with her at her home, comfortable with hospice care. Her death was not in vain as it served as a reminder of how important early screening is to help detect cancer earlier, as colorectal cancer is often easier to treat when caught in its early stages.
One challenge many patients face is the financial burdens related to healthcare and cancer related costs, in addition to normal daily living costs. One way to ease that burden is to contribute to the New Promise Cancer Foundation. I am so proud to be a part of a program that can assist the community by providing financial support when they really need it. Whether it’s through gas cards, groceries, child care payments, even medical expenses, New Promise is there to help them. Please join me in this wonderful fundraiser so we can continue to reach the most people in need. Your contribution stays local and can help ensure your neighbor does not have to face the challenge of financial burden alone. Thank you!
