This 5K is a tribute to Connie—a devoted mother of four, a beloved preschool director, and an exceptional human. On May 24, 2021, her life was tragically taken by violence at the hands of her partner.

Connie’s story is heartbreaking—but it is not unique. Every year, countless families in our community are impacted by domestic violence.

This race was created not only to honor Connie’s memory, but to shine a light on the silent epidemic affecting so many, and to channel our grief into action. We run for healing, for the children who witness violence at home, for the families left behind, and for the survivors still struggling to find safety. This 5K is about more than remembrance—it’s about resilience, community, and change.

* Connie always identified with ladybugs as her name, Conchita, means ladybug in Spanish. Now when we see a ladybug it not only symbolizes good fortune but it also reminds us of our beloved Connie!
