The International Examiner is celebrating the completion of 50 years of publishing on Friday September 27th, 2024!

This year, we aim to raise $150,000 to support the integral operating costs of publishing the sole remaining printed newspaper distributed in and focused on the Chinatown International District (CID) of Seattle.

We serve an estimated 661,000 Asian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander American (ANHPIA) residents in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties. These communities include Cham, Khmer, South Asian, Indian, Samoan, Tongan, Vietnamese, Thai, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and many others. Our printed newspaper circulates 3,000 copies every issue and is distributed through 115 organizations and businesses owned/led by communities of color.

The International Examiner is based in the CID, named one of the “11 Most Endangered Historic Places” in the United States. Approximately 76% of the CID’s residents are refugees and immigrants and the majority are ANHPIA. Although the International Examiner covers stories across the Puget Sound, the CID is a nexus for the communities we serve and we prioritize the stories here that would otherwise go untold.

The proceeds of fundraising components of the event will go towards the operating costs of running the IE. This funding is integral due to the limited funding available to journalism organizations, the deprioritization of the communities we serve by larger media sources, and the capacity needs of the organization.
