Textbooks Aren’t Free in Jamaica’s Public Schools.

In Kingston’s inner-city communities, many families are forced to make difficult choices at the start of each school year. With required textbooks costing an average of $60 USD per student, this expense creates a significant barrier to education for some of the city’s most impoverished and marginalized families.

School should be a safe space—a place where every child can learn, grow, and be nourished, free from the weight of financial hardship.

Children for Change is working to change that by helping to create equity in education by providing essential schoolbooks to students in underserved neighborhoods of Kingston’s inner-cities. We believe no child should be denied the opportunity to learn simply because their family can’t afford the cost of books.
