Story
Mary Fields was a "free soul." Help bring economic and intellectual freedom to more students through expanded mobility and access to our Kijana Global Innovation School.
2021 is off to a fantastic start at the Kijana Global Innovation School. The school reopened on January 4th with 54 students and we presently have 87 students enrolled. Thanks to generous contributors last year, we acquired a 14 seat school van, pictured here, which is presently taking three round trips transporting 41 students. We urgently need an additional vehicle to reduce pressure on the van and driver, and open up options for new students in further away villages. A deposit has been made on a new large 51 seat bus and we want to complete the order soon to have the custom-made "Mary Fields Courage Bus" in service by April 1st.
In recognition of Black History and Women's History Month, we are honoring the legendary frontier mail carrier and inspirational figure, Mary Fields, also known as "Stagecoach Mary." She bravely and courageously carried mail, ideas and human communication safely to their destinations. Similarly, our new bus will keep our talented youth out of harm's way.
The first 51 individuals or groups who contribute at least $100 will be recognized with a seat named after them. Names will be displayed at a visible place on each seat of the bus.
Kijana Global Innovation School students share, collaborate, and develop skills in tackling personal, community and global challenges. We encourage a reflective connection to the human story and ancestors of our global community. The "Mary Fields Courage Bus" will push students to honor those who brought us to where we are today.
The "Mary Fields Courage Bus" will allow more students to attend the wonderful Kijana Global Innovation School. Together we are changing education and expanding opportunity in Kenya and beyond. You can make a difference in young lives. Join in raising $75,000 to acquire and maintain this new bus which will carry students safely to new experiences and opportunities.
