Happy Birthday Carl!! We thank you for your years of instruction, wisdom, and encouragement through many workshops, conferences and essays. The liturgical practice each summer at LSM demonstrates the bridge and common ground that liturgical Christians can share in spite of other synodical or doctrinal differences. Thank you, Carl, for teaching us to celebrate what we hold in common. Of course, we also give thanks for your great gift of music to the church!

It was my great privilege to help in fostering the God-given musical gifts of hundreds of LSM students over the years. In doing so I was merely following the vision that originally emerged from Carl Schalk and his colleagues who founded LSM and then developed it so successfully. I treasure the memories and associations which developed in working with this outstanding organization — one of the few I can think of which fosters youthful talents as a service to the Church and in worshipful praise of the Creator. Keep up the good work!
