🌟 Our Story

The Brown People Foundation (BPF) was founded in 2020 after more than a decade of grassroots community work. Our roots trace back to the Ella Baker Freedom School (2012), which provided a hub for education, food distribution, and community organizing on the South Side of Chicago.

Since then, BPF has grown from direct services like food and clothing distribution and Know Your Rights trainings, to holistic educational outreach—urban foraging, plant medicine, and wellness workshops.

Today, we continue to honor our Freedom School legacy through initiatives like The Green Hub Project—a permanent space for Earth stewardship, skills training, and community connection.

At every step, our mission remains the same: to serve our communities by being of our communities.
