“Justice is what love looks like in public” – Cornel West

As we celebrate our 7th birthday, we can look back on how we have relentlessly advocated for justice, healing, and equity by making trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness accessible to so many underrepresented communities that the yoga and wellness industry had previously excluded.

That’s hundreds of people experiencing incarceration, individuals in recovery from substance use disorder, youth in schools, survivors of domestic violence, isolated seniors, people with mental health needs, those economically -challenged, the LGBTQIA+ community, and individuals with disabilities who have increased their self-awareness, self-worth, and resilience through the powerful practices of yoga and mindfulness.

This is why we do what we do- to give people the agency to turn inward and reclaim their freedom, and remind them they are alive and they do have a choice.

At the heart of YFAM is the intrinsic truth that “Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.” as Fannie Lou Hammer said at the National Women’s Political Caucus in Washington, D.C. 1971.

Therefore, there is still so much work to do. With your support, we can expand our programming, outreach and advocacy to make the powerful tools of mindfulness and yoga accessible to ALL.
