One thousand stories can change the future of cancer care.

When I was diagnosed with metastatic thyroid cancer in 2011, I learned that medical records can document a diagnosis, a procedure, or a treatment—but they rarely capture the full human experience.

They do not always show the financial strain, emotional distress, delays in care, experiences of discrimination, family sacrifices, or the exhausting fight to be heard.

As a cancer survivor and the founder of United Colors of Cancer, I created the 1,000 Voices for Cancer Equity™ Campaign because the experiences of BIPOC and underserved cancer communities deserve to be counted, understood, and used to create meaningful change.

What Is the 1,000 Voices Campaign?

The 1,000 Voices for Cancer Equity™ Campaign is a national listening initiative designed to collect and elevate the real-life experiences of cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers.

Through the anonymous Cancer Equity Survey™, participants will share their experiences with:

Access to timely, quality cancer care
Financial hardship and treatment costs
Emotional distress and support
Discrimination and barriers within healthcare
Treatment decisions and clinical-trial access
Whether they felt heard, respected, and supported

The survey takes approximately 8-10 minutes to complete. Although it centers the experiences of BIPOC communities, everyone impacted by cancer is welcome to participate.

The survey will remain open through December 31, 2026, so even more people can be heard.
