I’m the grateful daughter-in-law of Dorothy Witherspoon, a 100-year-old woman whose century of service inspired me to write the book Miss Dorothy’s Garden: 9 BEE Attitudes to Grow By.
After becoming her caregiver, I found myself making a new home in San Francisco—and taking my first trip to the African continent. Those life-changing weeks opened doors and sparked relationships I never could have imagined.
We launched the Miss Dorothy’s Garden Legacy Project to cultivate emotional resilience in children by helping them learn how to sow kindness in themselves and others.
The 100 Champions Legacy Fund Campaign is our next bold step to fund and sustain this work.
And now, in partnership with Gogos Give Smiles, we’re preparing to launch our first pilot program in Alexandra Township, Johannesburg, South Africa. We’ll close the campaign back home in the Bay Area with a Garden Party celebration—bringing the story full circle from San Francisco to South Africa. (That's only the beginning!)
So, I’m inviting you to help me fund our next chapter by becoming a Champion with a gift of $1,001 or more. You can give all at once, set up a monthly donation, or rally your network to fundraise alongside you.
This is deeply personal. My introduction to caregiving was emotionally brutal. Yet, from that dark place, something beautiful has emerged. The fact that this book and project even exist is a testament to the power of a vision. I’ve already invested my whole self to get to this point—but this garden needs all of us to bloom.
Will you help me sow kindness seeds around the world?
I'm starting with my network of visionaries and changemakers. Will you help me?
