Early in the morning on January 8, 2023, Kaitlyn Inez Jenkins, affectionately known as KJ, was an innocent bystander and victim of a senseless act of gun violence in Huntsville, AL while attending a birthday party with friends. KJ had just settled into her new dorm assignment at Alabama A&M hours before and wanted to go out for a night of fun with friends before her busy spring semester started.

At the time of her passing, KJ was pursuing her B.S. in Computer Science with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Alabama A&M University. KJ had recently graduated from Lawson State Community College with honors.

KJ had a beautiful soul and brought light, love, and laughter to any room she entered. She was a truly a unique, kind, loving, and supportive young woman. She loved to dance, play volleyball, hang out with friends, and spend quality time with family. KJ loved all things pink or cheetah print from her keychain to her Crocs.

KJ was truly a light in the lives of so many and will continue to be. To know KJ was to love her. If you didn't get a chance to meet her, you wish you had.

KJ expressed to her mother and sister on numerous occasions that she wanted to give back to the communities that gave so much to her over the years. KJ wanted to establish scholarships for young, black girls interested in and pursuing careers in STEM. She planned to start her scholarship fund after graduating.

The Love Like KJ Foundation was founded to fulfill KJ's ambitious plans. Our mission is to uplift the community through advocacy, education, and love. Our current projects include Little Miss STEM Book Blessings, gun violence awareness via social media, monthly acts of love, and scholarship opportunties (beginning 2024).
