Story

For the past month Governor Greg Abbott has been busing migrants from Texas to DC as part of a disgusting publicity stunt. Arizona Governor Ducey has now joined. Over 75 buses have arrived so far, filled with migrants from the countries of Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, Angola, and Nicaragua. Despite being given limited information on arrivals, the DC community has shown up to greet folks every time and help them on their continued journey. This situation has been largely ignored by big nonprofits and the government—it is individual DMV residents and small community organizations who have stepped up to take care of our own.

DC coops have shown up in a huge way! Leaders from coops are serving as volunteer organizers, while Dulce Hogar worker-owners are cleaning the guest houses where migrants are staying while they wait for the final destinations. Vendedores Unidos Food Coop worker-owners are cooking and delivering food daily. We at BCI are proud to support this effort, and are donating our hours to supporting direct aid and the coordination of the coops efforts.

Thank you for supporting us and workers across borders in their important community care work. We keep us safe!
