Turning Loss into Hope

Service Dogs Saving Lives was founded in memory of Joseph Johnson, whose life continues to inspire a mission rooted in love, compassion, and hope.

We believe service dogs can provide a vital lifeline for veterans, first responders, and others living with mental health challenges. Through the steady presence of a highly trained service dog, recipients can gain greater independence, daily support, companionship, and a renewed sense of connection.

SDSL partners with exceptional service dog training organizations to help fund service dogs and training scholarships for individuals who need this life-changing support. Each service dog and training scholarship costs approximately $25,000, and every donation helps move another recipient closer to receiving a loyal companion trained to meet their specific needs.

About the 20/20 Initiative

The 20/20 Initiative is a monthly giving campaign created to honor lives lost while helping provide hope and support for those who need a lifeline.

Through recurring monthly gifts, supporters help Service Dogs Saving Lives fund service dog scholarships for veterans, first responders, and others living with mental health challenges. These service dog partnerships can provide comfort, structure, independence, and a powerful bond built on trust.

Monthly Giving Options

$20/month: Honors the 20 veterans lost to suicide each day.
$20/month: Honors the 20 first responder lives lost to suicide each month.
$126/month: Honors the 126 lives lost to suicide each day.

Every monthly gift helps sustain this mission and brings Service Dogs Saving Lives closer to funding the next service dog scholarship.

By supporting the 20/20 Initiative, you are helping turn heartbreak into hope and giving someone the chance to experience the life-changing support of a service dog.
