Our Planet Is in Distress

The adverse impacts of human activities, including climate change, rapid resource depletion, biodiversity loss, and the reality of whole ecosystems overwhelmed by waste byproducts, are becoming increasingly alarming. We are faced with a choice—continuous deterioration or a commitment to sustainability.

We made a commitment.

Preparing Leaders in Sustainability

The Global Sustainability Fellows, an educational initiative of The Sustainability Laboratory, is preparing and mobilizing future generations of leaders to tackle the urgent sustainability challenges facing the planet. A rigorous graduate level program that combines cross-discipline work, international exposure, and hands-on, experience-based learning to address issues of sustainability, change processes, and development, the GSF bridges the gap between sustainability rhetoric and actual accomplishments on the ground.

For six weeks this summer, the 2023 GSF program will host up to twenty outstanding international Fellows with diverse backgrounds and disciplines who demonstrate a deep commitment to sustainability. The 2023 GSF session will focus on the island of La Palma in the Canaries and offers opportunities for fellows to cultivate their ability to tackle complex sustainability related issues. Participants will undergo an intensive three-week online course (June 5 to June 23, 2023) followed by a three-week, on-site experience in La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain (July 9 to July 30, 2023) that combines theoretical work with hands-on experience. Fellows will apply a multidisciplinary approach, guided by a rigorous definition of sustainability.

Room, board, and program costs are covered entirely by the GSF.

We need your help to prepare the next generation of sustainability leaders and secure the promise of a better world.

The 2023 Global Sustainability Fellows summer program represents a unique opportunity for transformative professional and personal growth, with a dynamic curriculum focused on sustainability, system thinking, and community development. The GSF session in La Palma illustrates an approach to sustainability that is as equally valid to the island’s development challenges as it is to humanity’s broader sustainability challenge.

Because you are concerned with the state of the world and with leaving a vibrant, thriving planet for future generations, we invite you to join us by contributing now.

Where Your Funds Go

Your donations will help us cover program costs, provide accommodations, and, in some cases, travel for selected candidates from all over the globe, who may not otherwise be able to participate in this unique opportunity to work with experts and like-minded cohorts in service to an island and its people.

With your support, the Sustainability Laboratory can provide twenty fellows, representing multiple disciplines and countries of origin, a unique opportunity to:

• Study and work with leading international experts in the field of system thinking, cybernetics, and sustainable development.
• Participate in opportunities for peer-to-peer learning through intensive workshops and collaborative actions with cohorts.
• Engage with local community and stakeholders to develop a collective vision and design a common strategy for sustainable development.
• Join a network of outstanding professional alumni deeply dedicated to evolving the theory and practice of sustainability.
• Explore a beautiful island ecosystem with local experts and like-minded participants.

Will you take our challenge and make a commitment?
