Story

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, Blythedale Children's Hospital will hold its 4th Annual Virtual 5K Run/Walk/Bike brought to you by our title sponsor! This event is the spring fundraiser of the Blythedale Advisory Council (BAC), providing an opportunity for people to "come together" to help children managing significant health conditions and their families.

Day of event schedule:

9:00 am - Go to our givebutter page (the page you are on now) and join us for our opening ceremony.

9:05 am to 6:00 pm: All participants can complete their 5K Run/Walk/Bike by using an app such as MyFitnessPal, Runkeeper, or other tracking apps to record their progress. Once completed, we encourage you to share your progress by emailing a snapshot of your completed route as well as any event photos to [email protected] with the subject line: BAC Virtual 5K. Throughout the day, we will share updates via social media of snapshots, selfies, and any other forms of participation. Be sure to use our hashtag #TeamBlythedale on any event-related posts!

6:00 pm - If you haven't done so by 6PM, please email your event photos to [email protected] with the subject line: BAC Virtual 5K. Keep an eye out for the BAC's e-blast with post-event wrap up!

Blythedale is New York State’s only independent, specialty children’s hospital. Our caring and highly specialized staff is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of children with complex medical illnesses and conditions. Our Board Certified physicians, experienced nurses and supporting clinicians work with families to provide individualized, intensive and innovative medical and therapeutic care. Together with specialized school curricula and family support services, we help children achieve their rehabilitative goals and return to their communities.

Proceeds from the event will support our Parent and Family Education Program. Blythedale offers tailored education and training so families can feel comfortable taking their child home. If a child relies on medical technology, such as a ventilator, our staff engages caregivers in a thorough program of education - beginning on day one - so they become confident and adept in all aspects of equipment use, from general operations to cleaning and maintenance. Our innovative education program divides what initially seems like an overwhelming learning curve into tiny steps. From babies and children with lung, heart or neurological conditions, genetic or physical anomalies, from the preemie who has never been home to the child who has suffered an accident or medical crisis, Blythedale brings together multiple disciplines and specialties to teach parents to become caregivers so their kids can come home and heal supported by their family and community.
