We started auction day with only $300 in our fund and 195 horses already in the catalog — plus another 100 in the after-sale and loose pens. We knew the odds were against us. Because you donated to our May Auction Fund, we were able to bring three horses to safety — Ruth, Wren, and Roman. We can’t thank you enough.
Let us introduce you to the newest members of the Gentle Spirit family:

Ruth – A sweet 14-year-old dun Quarter Horse mare. She’s thin and in need of groceries, but she’s kind, well-behaved, and reportedly trained to ride. Most touching of all, she’s taken a quiet interest in Wren, the baby we saved

Wren – Estimated at just 4 months old, Wren is a typical unhandled filly: curious, alert, and friendly. She has a minor leg injury that will need treatment, but she’s already showing a spark of spirit and resilience that gives us so much hope.

Roman – A big, 3-year-old Quarter Horse gelding with long, neglected front hooves. We’re hopeful that a few good trims will get him comfortable, though x-rays may be needed. Roman’s rescue came with a twist…
We had bid on Roman and thought we won the bid, but the auctioneer called out a different number and we assumed we lost him. Later that evening — long after the sale ended — we found him standing alone in a pen, without food or water. (To be clear: the auction would have fed and watered him before leaving for the night — this was unusual and a sign that something wasn’t right.)
Determined to try and help him anyway, we started asking around in hopes of purchasing him from his buyer. But no one claimed him. Everyone we spoke to said, “I thought you won him.” Finally, someone called the front office — and sure enough, our bidder number had been written down wrong. Roman was ours!
After another hour of sorting it out, Roman was officially transferred to us, and we brought him home.
Your donations didn’t just save horses — they turned a day full of ups and downs into a victory. You gave Ruth, Wren, and Roman the chance to start over. You gave us the resources to act — even when the path wasn’t clear.
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for believing in second chances.
With heartfelt gratitude,
