Clarion West has been instrumental in my writing journey through their amazing resources, online courses and a welcoming community for writers of any and all backgrounds. Please join me in fundraising, so that Clarion West may continue to offer these opportunities to passionate, diverse writers around the world. This is more important than ever in our current political climate.
For this Write-a-thon, I pledge to write a chapter per week for my first epic fantasy novel (title WIP) where we follow a pragmatic noblewoman, a reluctant soldier-mage and a thrill-seeking smuggler in a world of magic and greedy empires. Do they leave the world (a little) better than they found it, or are they just pieces in an unrelenting game of imperial chess?
Stretch goal: Completing a 5000-word short story about a girl who goes on a quest to protect the ailing water spirits in her hometown, set in 1950s Oregon. Current word count: 2889.
All donors (any $ amount) will be named in the acknowledgments of the novel (choice of online handle or full name).
Donors of $15+ will receive a preview of select chapters from the novel.
UPDATE July 21: I have completed 1 / 2 pledged chapters and begun writing the second chapter (current word count: 782).
UPDATE July 24: I have completed my two pledged chapters! Time to begin working towards my stretch goal :)
A bit about me: I'm a US-born Central American (she/her/ella) who's moved around a lot. I have been writing on and off since I was a kid, but I began to invest more in my craft and work towards publishing in recent years. Because I so rarely feel represented in the SFF stories I read and watch, one of my main goals is to unpack difficult histories and tell untold stories through my writing.
